Here, time has almost stood still since the mid-20th century
At Åsnebyn, time has stood still since the middle of the 20th century and the farm offers an exciting landscape filled with nature and cultural experiences. We want to show this! Bring your coffee basket and enjoy the view of the lake or participate in an event at the farm. The landscape at Åsnebyn is always open for hiking.
Hike in the farmed landscape
Length: 1.1 km - 2.9 km
Type of trail: Circular loops
A couple of loops have been laid out in the terrain. With the help of numbered posts and a brochure, you can guide yourself around the farm's land. The loop is in the shape of a figure eight, so you can easily choose to walk half or all of it. You walk through the inland field with traces of, among other things, older times of settlement and old agricultural technology and further towards the outfield. Imagine that the landscape can be read like a book, where, for example, land use from further back is visible in the terrain as different chapters!
Cultural reserve
In 2008, the County Administrative Board designated the farm a Cultural Reserve - the county's second after Gunnebo Castle. Åsnebyn is a farm dating back to the Middle Ages and the landscape contains many traces of older times.
Since 1993, the farm has been owned by the Hushållningssällskapet and for almost 10 years, extensive activities were conducted on the farm, thanks in part to the Hushållningsgillet and other associations. In recent years, the business has been dormant pending a decision on the creation of a cultural reserve. Now, however, we are in the starting blocks to once again start activities at Åsnebyn. We plan to have activities in building conservation, culture and health, agriculture and forestry, biodiversity, intangible cultural heritage, integration and crafts.
Visit the old smithy
At a fair distance from the farm buildings is the small forge with preserved interior and associated well and fire pond. This is where the farmer forged for domestic use and where the horses were shod. In the rear of the house is the brewhouse, which in later years also served as a bathroom. There used to be a smithy on most farms, but not many have been preserved.
