Eldorado for birdwatchers

On the grazed land and along the shores, there is a rich flora of annuals such as the small, inconspicuous four-leafed plant and the beach grass. In addition, there are several species of mud crab and willowherb. The area is one of the most important pikeperch spawning grounds in Sweden and the river Nossan is an important spawning ground for the fish asp, which is globally red-listed.

Lake Dättern is an important area for migrating and breeding birds. Many different species of ducks usually rest here, such as the common scoter, shoveler and brown duck. Many wading birds have also been found, such as snipe, curlew and dunlin. Breeding species include the brown harrier, little spotted crake, bearded tit and marsh tit. More or less frequent visitors are the species white-tailed eagle and corncrake, both globally red-listed. There is a bird tower at Sjöryd. From the bird tower you can see breeding birds such as bittern, gadwall, marsh harrier and bearded tit. The resting birds are mainly ducks, waders and geese. Lake Dättern is also one of Vänern's most important spawning grounds for zander.
