Charming city with vibrant countryside

WATER, LIFE AND DRIVE

Lidköping is a small town idyll with an inspiring life and drive. The town is just small enough to always feel accessible and welcoming, while there is an unusually wide range of attractions, culture, evenemang, restauranger, caféeroch butiker. The proximity to Lake Vänern means that you always have the water and the archipelago around the corner, wherever you are. The countryside is vibrant and close at hand when you want to experience both nature and culture. But what really makes Lidköping special is perhaps that the hearts of Lidköping residents beat so strongly for their town and their municipality. This creates an atmosphere that makes all visitors feel good and many return, often for good.

NEW CITY SQUARE - THE HEART OF LIDKÖPING

The obvious starting point for both visitors and residents is the New Town Square, which was laid out by Count Magnus Gabriel De la Gardie back in the 1670s. The square covers almost 22,000 square meters and is lined with 62 linden trees. On Wednesdays and Saturdays, Lidköping residents and visitors are attracted to the lively market square. Here you can buy everything from vegetables to clothes and meet friends and acquaintances for a chat.

The square is also home to the characteristic Old Town Hall, which is also the symbol of the city. It once belonged to Magnus Gabriel De la Gardie and was originally used as a hunting lodge or gazebo - here opinions differ - on Kållandsö. Already at the end of the 17th century it was moved to the square and today houses the tourist office and a pastry shop.

Adjacent to the New Town Square is also the Count's House, Lidköping's oldest preserved building. King Karl XII was brought here during his funeral procession after being shot in Norway in 1718. Today the building is used as an art studio, shop and workshop.

These are just a few examples of how history is alive in Lidköping and how the drive in the city constantly creates new opportunities and experiences.

SMALL TOWN SHOPPING

Most people who visit Lidköping for the first time are struck by how cozy it is with all the small shops and how nice they are treated. Those who come here on a Saturday morning will be pleasantly surprised by the lively market and surprised by all the old-fashioned pastry shops and fine cafes that are full of people. Because in Lidköping, people have coffee. Often and gladly!

Lidköping is a historic seaside town and a trading place for visitors since the Middle Ages. The city's offer is characterized by tradition, crafts, design and fashion. Clothes and interior design shops are located in the neighborhoods around the square and in the shopping centers within walking distance of the city center: Rörstrand Center, Framnäs shopping center and Änghagen, all with a wide range for the whole family and free parking. Don't miss the state-of-the-art Orionhuset, formerly a library building but now filled with clothes and fashion.

The cobbled streets of the city are interspersed with elements of the city's porcelain history through several ceramic decorations in streets and small squares. In almost every neighborhood, cafés invite you to relax between shopping rounds, from interior design, hats and jewelry to beds, flowers and much more. Service and expertise, personal and thoughtful - Lidköping stands out! The old town with retro shops and nostalgia events. The new town with central shopping malls, where small meets big.

Lidköping is personal and offers small town shopping at its best.

CITY GARDEN, ARENA AND LIBRARY

The city garden was once a cultivation plot for Lidköping's residents. Today it is an inspiring place where you can cultivate both your soul and your interest in gardening. The artistic plantings and garden installations are changed every year, and when there are music and cultural events here, Lidköping residents go wild.

You can also visit various events in the Sparbanken Lidköping arena. Here you can experience sports, culture, entertainment, exhibitions and fairs. Another meeting place is the modern city library, which opened in 2013. In addition to books, newspapers, music and films, people meet here to go to cafés and art galleries.

OLD TOWN

Then take a walk over to the eastern side of Lidan and visit the Old Town. There was a trading post here in the Middle Ages, and as early as 1446 it was granted its town charter. In the mid-19th century the area burned, but some parts around Limtorget survived and are still there today. The craftsmen who have always worked here are now joined by artists and a café. Stroll around for a while and enjoy the cozy atmosphere.

WELCOME TO LIDKÖPING

Despite all the things you can experience in Lidköping and its surroundings, it is perhaps the open and curious atmosphere that you will remember best and want to experience again. So welcome to Lidköping - a small town idyll with an inspiring life and drive.
