Philosophy and farming methods
The philosophy of the business is to keep the animals outside all year round, which results in healthier animals and more flavorful meat, as well as a more natural existence for the animals.
The feed consists of KRAV-approved pasture grass. Supplementary feeding during the winter is done with KRAV-approved self-produced roughage in the form of hay and silage.
This produces a so-called Stone Age meat, also known as grass-fed meat, which has a different protein and fatty acid composition (high Omega-3 content) than conventionally produced meat. According to nutrition experts, this type of meat is healthier.
Brief history of Östra Eketorp farm
The farm Östra Eketorp is located in the beautiful area of Södra Råda, on the shores of Lake Skagern, where the three landscapes of Västergötland, Värmland and Närke meet. Östra Eketorp dates back to the 1500s. The current manor house was built in 1732 by Peter von Bähr. During large parts of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, the farm was used by royal caroline captains. In the early 1900s, Östra Eketorp was transferred from state to civilian ownership.
Order and purchase
Almost all sales are made directly to customers. There is a small shop on the farm, but it is recommended to order by calling or emailing. Slaughtering, cutting, tenderizing and packaging takes about two weeks, after which the meat can be collected. All meat is cut and labeled and the ground meat is ground into mince.
