A gruesome but interesting part of Borgviks history.
Here, along the old countryroad, was where criminals met there fate during the 18th and 19th century at the excecution spot in Borgvik. One memorable case that is a large part of the history of Borgvik is the case of Britta Jonsdotter. The execution of Britta was the first excecution that happened here but was definitley not the last.
Britta was young and unmarried and had by accident birthed a child outside of marriage. The child was buried north of the church along with all the other criminals from the area. Britta was scentenced to death for her crime and it was here at Borgviksfjället that she on the 31st of May 1760 was beheaded and burnt on a stake.
The memorial stone placed at the location of the executions was put there by "Stengänget" and was inaugurated on the 30th of September 1979 by Domar Skafte.
But who was the father of the child and was he also executed here? His name was Bengt Ekenström and was a married man whose father-in-law was the owner of the Borgvik ironworks. Bengt Ekenström was an unusually rough mannered and unconsiderate and in the old ... Bengt is found countless times for his bad behaviour and tough life. His wife Sara Maria was beaten and abused by him multiple times.
Bengt Ekenström admitted that he was the father of the child and according to old dokuments he showed regret and promised to behave better so he was showed forgivness for his sins by the church in Borgvik. But sadly he didn't change his ways and continued to live a wild and ruthless life. He later died in a jail cell in Karlstad.
