A culinary experience at Sweden’s oldest inn
Passionate cooking
The innkeepers, Miriam and Stefan Johansson, have run Forshems Gästgivaregård since 1991 and view every guest as unique. Together with their passionate restaurant staff, they create memorable dining experiences based on traditional recipes, high-quality local ingredients, and carefully selected organic products. You can enjoy the offerings on-site or through catering.
As the inn is of cultural and historical significance, it also means high thresholds and narrow spaces. If you have mobility challenges, the staff will gladly assist to make your visit easier. Dogs are also welcome and can stay in the garden during the summer months.
The inn is a nationally and internationally recognized Slow Food restaurant, with several certifications and awards. It is featured in White Guide and Taste of West Sweden (Smaka på Västsverige).
Seasonal culinary adventures
From Easter to Christmas, seasonal dishes are served in a unique and atmospheric environment. During summer, the restaurant also offers a casual grill buffet in a relaxed setting, including burgers, spiced sausages, and pork shoulder, accompanied by cold beverages from local Kinnekulle Brewery. On sunny days, the buffet is served outdoors, and in case of rain, it is served indoors.
Spring’s wild garlic season and autumn’s flavorful harvest offer a slow food experience with an exclusive surprise menu, served over a four-hour seating. Limited guest capacity and table reservations only. During Advent, a gourmet Christmas buffet with nearly 100 traditional dishes is served, all made with locally sourced ingredients. For those seeking a simpler alternative, there are options for catering, takeaway, and Christmas lunch. Check the website for opening hours and more details.
